This instalment of the series takes you back to war torn England in the lead up to D Day. It tells the story of Kenzie Wallis Manning, a strong gutsy woman suffering from PTSD after she nearly got killed during her deployment in Afghanistan. Kenzie ends up in war torn England after receiving a mysterious parcel containing an emerald brooch in the mail. David McBain and Jack Mallory are sent back in time to bring her and her soul mate back but things never turn out as planned, all is fair in love and war. This is the fourth book in the Brooch series by Katherine Lowry Logan but it can be read on its own. Her other books are The Ruby Brooch, The Last Mcklenna and the Sapphire Brooch. This was a fantastic story. The author has managed to create a very realistic story line with strong, interesting and very lovable characters. If like me you read the other books in the series you will notice that some of the characters return while some new characters appear. It felt a little bit like catching up with old friends. The storyline was original, using the week prior to D Day as the setting rather than D day itself as is commonly done. The historical facts were well researched; the story was nicely written and flowed well.Overall a great story. I recommend this book to anybody who enjoys historical fiction mixed with some romance and suspense.
As a fan of Katherine Lowry Logan's other books, I was anxiously awaiting the release of The Emerald Brooch. I read it in two days and I must say I was NOT disappointed. Old "friends" from previous books, such as Elliott and Meredith Fraser, Jack Mallory, and David McBain return in this book, along with new characters, including fiesty, fearless, former Army officer Kenzie Wallis-Manning. I love romance novels such as this one, that involve time-travel--in this case to London in 1944 ,on the eve of the Allied Invasion of Europe, otherwise known as D-Day. There is also a good deal of history and humor, action and excitement, good guys vs. bad guys woven into the story. There are also a few steamy love scenes thrown in as well. Ms Logan strives for historical accuracy and "does her homework" as far as researching her subject matter. Her characters become people that you care about, knowing that you will likely meet them again in another of her books. I didn't want this one to end and I cannot wait for her next novel, The Diamond Brooch, to appear late next year. Thank you, Katherine, for another wonderful adventure!
Very disappointing. I just didn't buy much at all in this one. I've loved the other books in the series but not this one.Without giving anything away I just didn't like Kenzie. She jumped between being furious at David to wanting to jump in bed with him. She did this multiple times throughout the book. She also wanted to jump in bed with Cav. I NEVER felt she actually loved David. As for David, he was clearly obsessed with Kenzie but didn't buy that he loved her. The author over and over told us that the plan was so well thought out but it had HUGE holes in it. David did things that went against things he said earlier and were simply STUPID. The ending was so far fetched and UNROMANTIC that it just made me happy the book was finally over.
I cannot say enough about how enjoyable the Celtic Brooch books are. Each book takes the reader on an amazing journey so well described that it's like you're actually there! Characters are so clearly drawn that that they become like old friends as they reappear again and again in the series. As the "inner circle" of the MacKlenna family and close friends extends with each new book the reader cannot help but feel the warmth between them. In " The Emerald Brooch" we meet a new character, Kenzie, a female warrier and a West Point graduate who did two tours in Afghanistan, and is now in law school at Cambridge. She continues to participate in grueling physical endurance contests, and is a long range runner. Her life is quite Spartan and she allows herself few close relationships. She receives a brooch in the mail, reads the inscription and is transported to WWII London just before D day. David, who is the Scottish equivalent of a green beret is asked to investigate her disappearance. David is known for being able to do who can do just about anything. He is the go to guy for Elliot, the head of the MacKlenna clan. He is also as hot as they come! In the amazing adventure that follows Kenzie nearly dies and David learns that the Celtic brooches aren't always predictable as to how they go about putting soul mates together. The adventure takes the reader on a tour of WWII London, visits various military camps, Bletchley Park, and Normandy beach. Female pilots are mentioned, which I was not previously aware of. We also get to know David better as we learn more about his history. This series is best read in order. Previous books in the series are "The Ruby Brooch," " The Last MacKlenna, " and "The Sapphire Brooch."
