I found this book to have a good story diminished by gimmicky writing. Two things bothered me. The story was set in Texas, but the main character seemed modeled after Ruby in Cold Mountain, including the Appalachian dialect. It might have worked if the other characters in the area spoke the same dialect, but no one else did, so having just one character speaking a weird dialect struck me as odd. She also kept speaking in muddled cliches that really grated on my nerves, and even if you found them cutesy at first (personally, I didn't), the gimmick was vastly overdone to the point of being nauseating. That being said, the story, if not the heroine, had its charms, and overall it was a fast, entertaining read to fill a stormy night, but I would have enjoyed it much more and given it four stars if the protagonist came off as an authentic plainswoman instead of Ellie Mae Clampett channeling Archie Bunker--that totally ruined the romance for me.
Tried to hight all five stars, I would give more if it was allowed. I just loved Forevermore, book #2 in the Gooding series! A Very heartwarming story and one that made me actually cry several times! I loved almost all the characters. If I mentioned one episode, it would have to lead into another until I told the whole story, and I really don't want to do that. Suffice it to say, I highly recommend this book and the one before it, Fancy Pants. The third book is Whirlwind. Fourth one is That Certain Spark, fifth one is Serendipity and I think it is the last book. Can't hardly wait to see who stars in the other books! Thank you Cathy, for writing such good stories!
I have listened to this book on tape and read it more times than I can count. It is my all time favorite. Not only is it very humorous but has every quality of a great book. Great characterizations, romance and more. I love all her books.Would love one on Annie and Phone as.,
Some sadness, but lots of sweet laughter to make up for it in this story. I have never met a more heartwarming character than Hope!! You have to read this wonderful story and get to know her for yourself! Five stars is not enough for this one!
What a wonderful storyline and great characters, Hope and Jakob are honest, hardworking and willing to discuss problems, Jakob's care of his daughter and sister and the love he had for his wife clearly demonstrate just how wonderful he is. Reading about farm life and the gentle explanation of Hope's problem with reading was touching.Hope is just the type of angel God would put on earth to help others. Her belief that he sent her where she needed to be was inspiring and her mangling of bible verses and old sayings were precious!This is a great read, that provides us with a clear path to understanding that God can be in everything we do, without taking away from our joy. I can't wait to read more from Ms. Hake.
Hope gets all her sayings.mixed up but somehow they make sense. A wonderful book of Christian love and caring. I just love this book and will re-read it many times.
I really enjoyed this book about Jakob and Hope. Love abounded around family in this book. There was drama, suspense, a very bad man, love, and kindness in this book. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.
Cathy Marie Hake is an author that keeps you entertained with her romances and characters, but this one isn't her best. I've several of her books and have enjoyed them all, but this one was the one I liked the least.The book itself is fantastic and I enjoyed it, but Cathy Marie Hake is best known for her romances, something that was a tad lacking in this novel.Compared to Letter Perfect and Fancy Pants, this isn't her greatest romance, but this still is a great book.
