When I was was asked to review, I was intrigued by the idea of a 1-hour read about the Vietnam war. It did in fact live up to the 1-hour part. The absolute best and only profound insight provided was "the biggest problems the United States had involved seeing events in Vietnam through a a Cold War lens only, rather than interpreting events and actions they witnessed based on Vietnamese interests and beliefs." BRAVO!!As has been pointed out in previous reviews, the treatment of pre-U.S. involvement was concise and valuable for understanding. The discussions of the DRAFT were ludicrous. In fact, this issue was the seminal cause of the protest movement that started much earlier than this author acknowledges.More time was spent discussing Woodstock than the Tet Offensive. In fact, more time was spent on the counterculture than the War itself! While he did say that a cause of the frustration of the troops was the absence of major engagements to celebrate, in fact there were lots and lots of engagements, involving lots and lots and lots of troops on both sides.A final point on the the "alternative fact" aspect, is the contention that the Vietnam war "came to destroy most of the [Johnson's] domestic agenda." The facts are something entirely different. SHAME!A good editor would have solved many of the problems of fact and prevented such gems as " His lies were revealed and confirmed in undeniable terms."I would really like an explanation of the idea that the "Vietnam Memorial does not acknowledge the impact of the war on Vietnam." Uh no, because that is not its purpose!A final complaint: often the writer says "books have been written" or some such. Saying this, it would have been nice to provided a Bibliography or at least a list of the books.I cannot recommend this book to anyone who wants an understanding of the subject. I suppose that is because I cannot get my head around the idea that this subject can be explained in a 1-hour read.Given the above a 2* rating is the best I can give.

This must be a not-so-good joke. It can hardly be called a book, as it is barely a short pamphlet. The "History From Beginning to End" is a maximally condensed rehash of obvious and redundant truths. It is definitely not a history work, the level being at most a short homework project for a very average Junior High student. A glimpse at a Wikipedia is much more informative and insightful. The subtitle "Hourly History" cannot refer to the length of the pamphlet (it does not merit an hour of your time), neither to the description of the narrative (which is decade-by-decade at best). Do not waste your time

While I checked off the review at 5 stars, it must be noted that it should be closer to 4.5. My reasoning is simple. I am of that age and era since I was of draft age during this non-declared war, having graduated from High School in 1968. Grammatical errors are few, but there is one area I would note that is off. The book states that the draft was not instituted until very late in 1969, yet I got my draft notice in June of that year. The book is a pretty good review of a "war" that became unpopular, not only because Johnson lied, but even more so because of outside forces fomenting unrest, where else, but Berkley. East Germans had a hand in disinformation in an already liberal community. I know, because I came to meet one of those East German soldiers sent here to sway the American public. Overall the book is pretty fair about an extended conflict in which I lost friends over there and almost to a man, they all agreed we could have won the "war", lest we got rid of the like of people like Robert McNamara. Lastly, our military was filled with conscripts there only because they were given little choice, jail or military service with the majority of those being drug offenses.

As an active participant in this war, I have read many books about why the USA got into this war, the tactics that were used and major battles of the war as well as what else was going on in our country and the world leading up to, during and after this divisive time. Today, as classified documents are finally made public, many misconceptions are becoming clear. This short treatise on one of the longest and most misunderstood wars in our country's history is exactly what is needed today--a clear, concise and objective summary of a part of our nation's history that is accurate and truthful. I highly recommend this book without reservation.

This is a book that format is designed to be read in an hour. These series do not come with a reference due to it format. This book could be either 3 stars or 4stars or 5 stars. No lower then a 3 star. Why this rating? This book is the type a person had to live during that time to really understand what was it was like. I rate this book bases on a few reviewers rating. One of the 5 stars reviews is from a person who served during that time. Mahalo for your service and awards! One of the 3 stars is from a person who was in the Army during that time but not in Vietnam. Mahalo for your service! I will always trust veterans accounts. One of the 4 stars is from a lady who boyfriend( at the time )served during that time. Mahalo for your boyfriend service! I did not read all the reviews but most of them. As history lovers know, the best way to learn history is through the eyes of one that been there. This is why I say this book could be a 3 star, 4 star, or a 5 star.🇺🇸🦅P. S I could have put the ratings in order. I am weird. That is me.
