I am the treasurer at my church. I have had a QuickBooks college class and still found this book helpful. Church accounting has many accounting issues that I needed additional guidance on and this book was helpful. Even someone without an accounting background or any other QuickBooks training could navigate the software with this book.
I took over for our previous Treasurer and things were just a mess and I didn't quite know what to do in QuickBooks.Lisa's book has been a huge help. I decided to just start a new company in QuickBooks and have a fresh start. Her book took me thru the set up and her suggestions for the chart of accounts were excellent. I couldn't have done it without this book! If you're on the fence about getting it, trust me, this book is worth every penny. I'm so thankful that this book is out there. There was no other book that was specifically for churches using QuickBooks.
I purchased this book after I "discovered" it on a search to find a better accounting program that would work for our smaller church that was USER FRIENDLY. This book is written so that those of us who DO NOT have an accounting background can actually understand how to use QuickBooks in our churches. I'm VERY HAPPY I found this book!! Her website is great also!!
This is a great book. VERY helpful. I bought it on Kindle first, but the examples are really too small on the Kindle Paperwhite to be of help. Bought the printed version and it is just fine. If you are just starting out with both Quickbooks and accounting/bookkeeping for your religious organization, this is the book you will need.
Even though I had no experience with QB except to review reports generated from my former church's bookkeeper (who had tons of experience), I have been able to get our 2016 QB set up for my new church and run reports that the board is pleased with (which took a few months of tweaking, suggestions, etc.). This book is easy to understand and answers many of my questions.
I have been a church treasurer for more than 8 years and purchased this book to help "grow" our church QB system to automate reports and information required by our diocese and to track some nuanced restricted/unrestricted gifts. I found it helpful as a reference for best practices that go beyond Quickbooks accounting AND as a "how-to" manual with straightforward, step-by-step instructions to set up the chart of accounts, the item list and other specific QB tools. I'd recommend this as an office reference for churches of all sizes and accounting systems.
Whether you are familiar with QuickBooks or not, this is a great resource. It is well written and easy to understand. I don't know what I would have done without it! I highly recommend this book for churches! I also purchased the author's pre-set chart of accounts mentioned in the book. A great timesaver and starting point for new users!!!
I am on the Vestry and chair the budget and finance committee at a small Episcopal church. As a former banker, I've been helping our Treasurer switch our software from Church Works to QuickBooks. QuickBooks is very user friendly, but the nonprofit version has several weaknesses. Restricted accounts, fund accounting, etc just aren't easy to do. This book has been a tremendous help to us, particularly to our Treasurer, a CPA who is really doing the work!
