EPILEPSY ON OUR TERMS is a book I wish I had when I was first diagnosed with epilepsy in '75. The stories brought back so many memories, some funny, others frustrating. I wrote a thankful review to all the contributing doctors and also sent them my story. I hope it helps them, or one of their patients. Epilepsy is still a misunderstood and avoided medical conditon among the public. More books like this need to be written. First-hand knowledge is always helpful to the patient/family dealing with medical issues. This book would make a great handout to the newly diagnosed. It would also make great reading for a medical class discussion group. I'll have to buy another copy cause I did pass it on to a young person with epilepsy.angie
I read some of the other reviews and I do have to say this..... If you want to shelter your child and not tell them the reality of seizures and epilepsy, then don't get this book. There are stories from parents and the children. It does not hide the truth and that is why I bought it. You have to be honest with your children about their condition and this book does help. The stories from the kids are why I bought it for my 10 yr old. I wanted her to know that there are other kids out there like her. I 100% recommend this book. But be warned - it's not a happy, fluffy book - it's reality.
For parents who are fighting the battle of epilepsy with their children, this book lets you know you are not alone. As a mother of a child who has uncontrolled seizures, it is inspiring to read these stories from children. It is the closest that I can get to know how my child feels when having a seizure. These children are so brave, and don't let epilepsy get the best of them.It is a truly inspiring book!
My son was recently diagnosed with epilepsy. this book really made me afraid of what is ahead of us medically and socially. I thought this was a grim read.
