This is a sweet salute to Jane Austen's novel but it's not "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" with cats. The story is told with cats as the beloved characters in one half of the chapter and text from the novel to support the feline fiction in the second. The novel is sprinkled with photographs of cats, illustrating the action of the plot and reminding the reader this is all tongue in cheek. I enjoyed the read although I feel the the modern authors couldn't hold a candle to the quality of Jane Austen's prose; however, if you like Austen and you like cats, you'll probably like this novel.
It was cute with some nice pictures but not quite as eleborate in text as I would have liked. By that I mean I was expecting a more fully imagined retelling rather than excerpts. It's not bad but I guess I felt some of the other P&P books made me over expect. Still, a tip of the bonnet to the author!
This is such a great book. Fun for adults who have a love of cats and a fun story for kids about cats as people. I haven't read the entire book so I am only assuming it's a good book to read to kids. It's a fun book to have sitting around on tables. Unique, well written and fun.
Snipped sections of Austen works replayed as cast by a clowder of cats, complete with photographs. I love cats, but even this was too much of a stretch. Not very clever, or entertaining, it quickly becomes repetitive and dull.
Within minutes of opening the package and getting out the book, both my wife and I were laughing our self sick with the photos and "Austen-type" captions. Keep in mind we find cats highly amusing, and even named one of our sites "sillycatvalley," a take-off on silicon valley. (I write about tech matters, among other things.)My wife has read Austen, I've only seen the movie version, and also the DVD "Pride & Prejudice & Zombies". But the book is a great effort and the captioned photos worked well.
Love Jane Austen? Love cats? Love to laugh? Then you will adore this book. Pride and Prejudice and Kitties: A Cat Lover's Romp through Jane Austen's Classic. Pamela Jane and Deborah Guyol are masters at mixing and matching adorable cat photos ( some of the scenes actually shot in Jane Austen's house by photographer Sally Keehn) with funny quotes and adorable puns. Beloved characters appear with catly characteristics and familiar Austen phrases as repeated by cats, take on new meaning. Kay Winters
I love cats, so bought this book... that was a mistake! Nothing in here has any relationship to real cats and is an insult to Jane Austen’s wok.
This is a wonderful satire on Pride and Prejudice and on goopy cat books. The writer has done an impressive job of copying Austen's style. I forwarded it to another feline-dedicated friend, and she loves it as much as I do. I hope this is the first of a series!
